Today a delegation from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the European Centre for Advanced Studies (ECAS) visited the light & matter group in the Institute for Solid State Physics. ECAS is the central hub for scientific cooperation between Lower Saxony and Scotland and has been instrumental in funding exchanges between the Physics partners at LUH and the University of Glasgow since 2022.

During the visit prospects of the scientific exchange were discussed with researchers and stakeholders. Ilja Gerhardt and Jörg Götte from the University of Glasgow introduced their long-standing collaboration and the recently awarded grant “Enhancing Atomic Spectroscopy with Optical Angular Momentum” of the Zukunft Niedersachsen Lower Saxony - Scotland Research Innovation Scheme Stream II Excellence Track. The research combines the key strengths of the two groups: The light & matter group in Hannover researchers on quantum sensing and quantum information with tailored light fields. The Quantum Theory group in Glasgow is specialised in quantum optics, structured light and light-matter interactions.
